Using Facebook to Fundraise

Thank you for raising funds to help pets in need at Lollypop Farm! This year, fundraising for the Walk for the Animals at Barktober Fest (and getting great incentive prizes) is easier than ever before. Just like when creating a Facebook fundraiser for your birthday to raise dollars for a cause you care about, you can now create a Walk for the Animals Facebook fundraiser to directly support homeless and abused pets in our community. Funds that your Facebook friends help you raise will show up in your Walk for the Animals participant center, and will count towards your goal and incentives.

Getting started

In order to set up your Facebook fundraiser, you must first register for the Walk for the Animals at Barktober Fest, coming up on Saturday, September 26th. You can start your online registration here.

  1. Once you have signed up for the walk, you will be directed to your participant center. On the right-hand side of the page, click the blue "Fundraise with Facebook" graphic to start creating your Facebook fundraiser.

  2. Once you select "Fundraise on Facebook," a window will pop up, prompting you to "Log in with Facebook." If you have a pop-up blocker enabled, you may want to disable it for this webpage, just to get set up on Facebook.

  3. Click "OK" to allow the Walk for the Animals app to manage your new Facebook fundraiser. This will allow the funds you raise to show up in your Participant Center. When your Facebook fundraiser is connected to your Barktober Fest Participant Center, you will get a notification that reads "Your Fundraiser is Connected to Facebook!"

  4. You can either click "Go to Facebook Fundraiser" or copy and paste the link for your new Facebook fundraiser into your browser to visit your new page. A notification that you have created a new Facebook fundraiser will also be posted automatically to your Facebook wall, to let your friends and family know that you are raising dollars for a charitable cause!

Personalizing your Fundraiser

Once you check out your new Facebook fundraiser, you can edit it and make it your own! Feel free to add a fun cover photo (you can find some of our Facebook social media graphics here), update the name of your fundraiser, and edit the "about" section text, as this text is uploaded automatically from the Barktober Fest website.

Facebook Fundraising Pro-Tips

Wondering how to make the most out of your new Facebook fundraiser? Here are a few tips we suggest trying out to raise funds to help pets in need, and get awesome Barktober Fest fundraising incentives!

  • Share your fundraiser! Invite your friends, family members, and co-workers to make donations to your fundraiser by posting about it on your Facebook wall. You can also invite your friends to the fundraiser page, just like you could for a Facebook event. You'll find this option on the right-hand side of your Facebook fundraiser, under a tab called "Invite Friends."
  • Post in your fundraiser frequently! Sharing stories directly from the Lollypop Farm Facebook page or posting photos of your own pets are both great ways to encourage your friends to donate. Posting more frequently as the event date approaches is a great way to ramp up the excitement, spread the word about Barktober Fest, and raise more funds for pets at Lollypop Farm.
  • Thank people who make donations to your fundraiser! This is a great way to engage your friends that are generous enough to make a gift to help pets in need, and encourage others to do so.
